We were at a fundraising night on Saturday last for a new Facility in Ballinderreen GAA club. The facility will comprise a Gym, new Changing rooms and an enclosed viewing gallery overlooking the pitch. This will add to the already splendid facility in Ballinderreen GAA grounds. We already have 2 pitches, a floodlit running track, Astroturf Pitches, playground, Basketball and tennis courts. Amazing facilities, and all put there by the community. The event on Saturday was amazing. I don’t use those words lightly, it seems to be common parlance nowadays to say “its amazing” but this truly was. So professional and entertaining. There were 10 acts performing and we sponsored one of the acts, “Freddie and the Mercuries” Our team was made up of Seamount College TY students, and mostly BDN Camogie and Hurling members. This group of kids would meet in the nursing home and put together their act and dance routine, in their own time, and practiced their routine to the melodic tones of Freddie Mercury. It was funny on the night, the MC commented how it was ironic that the youngest team in the competition would be sponsored by a nursing home. Anyway, I don’t want to ramble too much, but I have to commend the organisers and participants of this competition. It was a credit to them the enjoyment they provided and the time they invested to raise money for a great cause. As Mark Lane said, this is not just about building a gym. This is about providing a facility that everyone can use. I know that our residents will definitely be able to go and enjoy a game of hurling again, which would be impossible before this, in the comfort and warmth of the Viewing gallery. We are proud supporters of all the Ballinderreen Club does and stands for. We were all winners on the night. Well done everyone involved. ... See MoreSee Less
