Blake Manor Celebrating the Arts!

Our activities team ran a Celebrating the Arts Project as part of the Bealtaine Festival over the past couple of months. As many residents as possible got involved, be it holding a paintbrush and adding paint or cutting out pictures. Our project celebrates our interdependence on arts and artists, music and musicians, spirituality, nature and each other through the creation of hand painted and multimedia messages crafted on natural timber signage. The colorful signage has been hung in our community throughout the village of Ballinderreen.

Visually, through the shape of a heart we are reminded of the words of Vera Lynn’s song, 'We’ll Meet Again’, don't know where, don't know when, but I know we will meet again some sunny day..." which our artists felt is a very inspirational musical reminder for us to remain positive during the current difficulties we face. A painting of a heart representing Love and well being bears the message 'pass it on' to remind us to care, not just for each other, but also for ourselves.

A bird in a hand with the message ' you were the bird that I held in my hand till I learned to fly on my own' reminds the community that we are all independent and interdependent beings. The picture of 'the creation of David' is portrayed with the phrase 'two meeters', humorously reminds us that we should and will meet again - but stay 'two metres apart'. A painting of the church 'St Colmans' reminds us of the comfort many people find in spirituality, in times of suffering and celebration. Close by hangs a painting of a Dove signifying peace and hope for our future.

There are ten art pieces in full and they can be viewed around Ballinderreen village and community until 11th of June. We truly hope that our exhibition will serve to thank everyone in our local community for ensuring that we remain part of the community, especially during the past year.
